We are looking for an exceptional candidate for a unique position to work in a private family home setting to support a happy, affectionate and energetic young man of 19 years old, who is a home educated student.  He also loves horse riding, yoga and running outdoors.

As the Special Needs Educational Team Leader you will be managing a team of PAs to guide and mentor them in meeting all of the young man’s care, social and educational activities.

Candidates will ideally have a background in SEN education and an understanding of working towards the goals set out in a young person’s Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP). 

The family have adopted the Rapid Prompting Method (RPM) technique as the basis for their son’s education, which is a prompting technique used by parent/carers and educators to help their child with SEN to communicate through pointing, typing or writing. Knowledge or an understanding of RPM or other teaching techniques such as Son-Rise or Intensive Interaction would be an advantage. Full training will be provided.

Candidates will need to have proven organisational skills to ensure that the team is delivering the care, support and activities effectively to support this young man. 

Excellent written and verbal communication skills are also vital to ensure the team are managed and directed, reports and lesson plans are produced to the required standard and progress is clearly communicated back to the Local Authority. 

Candidates will need to be able to demonstrate their creativity to ensure that activities and lessons planned are appropriate to meet the young man’s needs, abilities and set goals and be passionate about providing this education.

Training the team in all aspects of the young man’s care, support and education is a key part of the role and candidates should therefore be confident in transferring knowledge and assessing progress to ensure that the individual team members are consistently delivering the required standard of care, support and education to the young man. Training which the successful candidate will provide to the team will include Moving and Handling, Epilepsy Awareness, Personal Care and RPM. The successful candidate will also be responsible for reviewing each member of the team’s progress and development and managing the team rota.

The successful candidate will also work on a 2-1 basis with other team members to take the young man out to enjoy social activities which will stimulate him in both enjoyment and experience.

Applicants must have their own transport and full clean driving licence. 

This is a full time role with some participation required on selected weekends.

This role requires a long term commitment due to the undertaking of training and development. Applicants will ideally be educated to degree level.

Hours will be 09:00 16:00
